“Animal like Me”, the most recent single by Faith Eliza was co-written by Jason Pennock and Matt Wong. In November of 2021, Jason and Faith were introduced by Faith’s consultant Camille Barbone and together re-branded Faith as an alternative pop artist. Jason was intrigued by the title “Animal Like Me” a song originally written by Faith in 2020, he took the song in a new direction with an emphasis on finding our true identity; heard in the lyrics “lipstick, lies and empty smiles, no sanity” and “behind those picket fences, what do you see?” This song is an anthem for those of us who want to strip away the facades and fakery in life, and connect to our true self and deepest calling. Faith tweaked verse 2 saying “behind those IG filters what do you see?” calling attention to the heartbreaking phenomenon of comparing our natural beauty to unrealistic beauty standards, pushed by social media filters. – Comparison is the thief of joy.
The chorus is a mantra to return to ourselves, and live in the moment accepting our fate as flawed but passionate humans looking for a “reason for breathing” and finding peace in stripping away the masks, and embracing our true animalistic authentic selves. May we be free, to love ourselves and connect with one another without pretending or hiding.
